I took a ride on the Columbia Trail from Long Valley to High Bridge the other day, continuing on to Spruce Run Reservoir before returning. The Columbia Trail is an old railroad right of way which has been converted to a mixed-use trail. The trail winds its way through the Ken Lockwood Gorge. I recently caught a number of Yellow Lake Perch which contained large sacks of roe. One of the old guys at my local bait and tackle place kept telling me how tasty it was to put the roe into scrambled eggs, so I wanted to try that out, but I was not able to [...] I have created the Friends of Splitrock, a community group with the goal of preserving and promoting access to the Splitrock Reservoir. I will continue to post major updates on this issue here, but there will be a lot more information available over at the Friends of Splitrock website. Already I have gotten some positive news [...] I visited the Splitrock Reservoir this evening expecting to get some good fishing in. I had been chased off the water early on both Friday and Saturday nights by thunderstorms moving into the area, but the temperature was back down to the mid-eighties today and the full moon was going to be coming up right [...] Just got back from the Bullet Hole after putting 350 rounds of different ammunition through my MKIII. I had about 5 of the expected ejection problems (still waiting for my VQ extractor to be delivered), but other than that it functioned flawlessly. The trigger/hammer sticking issue seems to have been fixed by cleaning up the [...] I spent my youth fishing. Many weekends each summer were spent at my father’s parents house in Ocean City (New Jersey), each including a trip on one of the party boats for fluke. During the week back home in Somerville, I would often head down to Peter’s Brook and spend the afternoons catching sunfish. I don’t [...] Today, Sheryl and I did about a 12 mile bike ride on the Sussex Branch Trail starting at Kittatinny Valley State Park. The trail runs along a portion of the right of way of the old Delaware, Lackawanna & Western railroad’s Sussex Branch. The tracks were removed decades ago, and all that is left is [...] I went up to Cherry Ridge today to try out my new pistol. I picked up Bill on the way since he is also getting into firearms and was interested in checking out the range. We put 400 rounds through my 10/22 (which was its usual reliable and accurate self) and 430 through the new MKIII. [...] |

Mayor blames state for closure
Rockaway Township’s mayor, Louis Sceusi says that the closure of the Splitrock Reservoir parking lot was a last ditch effort to get the state involved in cleaning up and policing the area. He also says it is working. Read more.
